The incumbent will serve as working supervi! sor over the materials handling function exercising full supervisory responsibility over the work. The operation supervised is located at the Newington Facility Warehouse & Supply Section. Positions supervised: 3 Materials Handlers, WG-6907-05. Administratively supervises 1 Property Disposal Technician Team Leader, GS-1107-08. The Newington Facility is responsible for the receipt, storage and distribution of surplus furniture. They are also responsible for all items acquired through fedstrips, purchase orders and blanket orders for PTO offices, other material, and the taking of periodic physical inventories. The Facility is the central receiving point for all materials shipped to the PTO.
Operates forklift trucks, automated material handling, identification equipment to include mobile stock selectors, and electromechanical automated equipment such as high-rise automated storage and retrieval vehicles to move, stack and un-stack, load and unload, bin, and position m! aterial. Maneuvers forklift in confined places over wood, concrete, or similar type floors.
Responsible for the receipt, validation, storage inventory and distribution of excess/surplus property (Furniture and equipment). Provides guidance planning and coordinating the storage and movement of excess/surplus property at the warehouse.
Periodically visits GSA warehouse and other federal agency installations to screen excess property availability for transfer to PTO. Processes requests for excess/surplus property. Prepares property for serviceability, repair, and cleaning for redistribution or distribution to PTO. Make sure the paper work for acquiring and distributing excess/surplus property is complete and accurate.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Element 4: Work Practices - Ability to manage and screen the availability of property and make decisions on the serviceability required before redistribution and skill in making sure the paperwork for acquiring and distributing excess/surplus property is complete and accurate.
Element 5: Ability to Interpret Instructions.
Physical effort and work conditions : Works on hard surfaces and in work areas that require standing, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts and carries weights up to 40 pounds. Dexterity and strength are also required occasionally when the employee pushes a cart weighing up to 200 pounds from one building to another, sometimes in crow! ded quarters. Must lift cart onto or off of an elevator that is not lev! el with the floor. May handle heavier items with weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. Assists in loading and unloading trucks.
