This lawyer will provide comprehensive legal support to Verizon’s Public Sector Sales group in its sales to state and local government and educational customers. In this capacity, the atto! rney will provide holistic line of business support to clients on product development, marketing support, sales, compliance and governance activities, and other post-Sales activities.
Job Responsibilities
Support all aspects of Verizon’s sale and provision of services to state and municipal governments including voice and data, 911, professional services, connectivity, etc.
Assist in responding to customer solicitations such as requests for proposals, invitations to bid, and proposals submitted in response to such solicitations. Lead customer negotiations for contracts arising from proposals and other customer offers.
Advise the clients and interface with customers in resolving significant contract disputes.
Advise clients and management on appropriate balancing of business goals against legal, regulatory, reputational and financial risks.
Monitor and advise clients as to evolving requirements and potential legal conse! quences of doing business with government entities. Help ensur! e compliance with the unique procurement, disclosure and ethical requirements associated with doing business with government entities.
Work closely with and/or manage experienced team of contract managers responsible for:
Analysis of customer requests for proposals or customer standard contracts
Identifying non-standard customer requests and working with Verizon counsel and business groups to determine and document legally acceptable company positions to respond to such requests.
Qualifications
6+ years experience working in similar environment i.e. Corporate Legal Department or Law firm
3+ years experience negotiating and advising on contracts with state, local or federal government
Law degree from a highly rated law school
Member in good standing of bar of at least one state
Business acumen, effective oral and written communication skills, and strong organizational skills
Ability to ! manage multiple projects efficiently and with limited supervision
Excellent negotiation and leadership skills.
Knowledge of or willingness and the initiative to learn state and local government contracting law and the internal Verizon processes relevant to deal and product lifecycle management.
