Plans, organizes and manages all aspects of risk management in a multi-state claims handling environment. Basic functions include: reviewing all incoming case work to determine priorities and make independent judgments relative to case load, directs the management and supervision of investigations and claims settlements in compliance with the processes, procedures, and guidelines of the Company while assuring that financial authority, legal, and statutory requirements are achieved. Works with all clients to assure reserve accuracy.

Communicates by telephone, e-mail, and in writing with clients, claimants, attorneys, employers, medical providers, insurance carriers, and witnesses regarding claims investigations and to provide claim status updates; requests and/or conducts further investigation for questionable or complex claims; recommends surveillance of claimants as appropriate; recommends methods for returning claimants to work; negotiates settlements; monitors and verifies medical care provided to claimants; identifies third-party liability and coordinates with third party carriers to seek recovery; monitors claims classification to identify and report safety problems; interprets Federal Employers Liability Act (FELA) and related laws, rules, and regulations to provide guidance and assistance to clients, claimants and medical providers; accurately documents claim files to maintain a complete and thorough investigative record in anticipation of litigation; supervises statistical data in database; generates reports, monitors retirement board payments, authorizes interim and final bills. Attends annual national and regional claims conference meetings as needed.Assigns priorities for Sr. Claims Managers and Claims Managers relative to conducting investigations; monitors and directs the managers ongoing investigation and determines if on-going inquiries are warranted; may also supervise and direct/dictate tasks to the administrative assistant(s); assists defense attorneys; gathers, prepares, and presents evidence to attorneys; may be called on to testify in court.In addition, Regional Claims Managers assist with the development, growth and marketing of the Company by creating, establishing and maintaining client relationships. Calls upon potential, new and established customers as needed.

Promotes Company services and products, including claims management, investigation, auditing, risk assessments, training, HR, and any other services that the Company can offer.Education/Training:Requires 10 years of claims experience OR a bachelors degree and at least 5 years of claims experience.Knowledge and Skills:Must possess an in-depth knowledge of the principles of casualty claims insurance, coverage interpretation, adjustment procedures, and the law that governs contracts, torts, insurance, and the rules of civil procedure. Should be familiar with the rules of evidence and discovery in claims cases. Experienced interpreting laws and regulations to determine compensability of claims; directs the disposition of FELA and third party claims involving complex legal and medical issues. Extensive hands on experience and training, specifically in employee and third party claim processes and functions.

Must process strong managerial, leadership and communication skills; strong analytical skills to evaluate information and produce claim related reports and recommendations is vital. Solid PC skills including the use of MS Word, Excel, and Access are required. Strong written and verbal communication skills are also essential.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Handles all assigned claim files professionally and honestly; consistently maintains fair and equitable documentation of billable time and expenses. Administers claims for casualty, personal, and property losses.

Supervises and ensures Senior Claims Managers conduct complete and sound investigations and settlements. Oversees the billable time and expenses on Senior Claims Management files. Must produce significant billable hours via personal file management and/or by directing the investigations and files of Senior Claims Managers. Must also on occasion personally travel to investigate and handle claims.
