Norfolk Southern Corporation seeks a tax attorney with 3 to 5 yearsâ experience, to advise the company and its rail subsidiaries on a variety of federal and state tax-related issues. The successful candidate must have a J.D. degree and practical experience in tax work with the government, a corporation or at a law or national public accounting firm. An LL.M. (Tax) or CPA certificate is highly desirable. This in-house tax attorney will assist in all areas of federal and state tax matters, including transaction planning, controversy work and compliance, and will interact with all levels of company management. Strong analytical and communication skills are a must.
Job Description:
- Provides legal advice concerning income, gift, excise, property, benefits, and other federal, state, local, and foreign taxes in order to minimize tax liability.
- Provides advice on federal and state tax impact on corporate transactions and recommends the most advantageous form of transaction to minimize tax liability.
- Provides advice with respect to tax legislation.
- Provides advice for tax planning and tax compliance for the employee pension and welfare benefit plans.
- Provides advice on tax law and makes recommendations in the preparation of tax returns and other documents.
Minimum Level: 3 years Preferred Level: 5 years
Education:
Preferred Level: Doctoral Degree (JD, BS, BA) Preferred Majors: Accounting, Law, Accounting-Taxation
Licenses / Certifications:
Required: Licensed Lawyer (and Member Of The Bar) Preferred: LL.M. (Tax) or CPA
