Claims Examiner:
The mission of this job is to promptly analyze policy files to determine the correct policy death benefits payable to beneficiaries.
The applicant must have prior experience and knowledge of claims workflow and processes, claims compliance requirements, and common contractual settlement options. Additional responsibilities include multiple claims examiner functions such as calculation of interest and policy benefits, responding to claims inquiries and preparing correspondence, follow up on pending claims, research of policy master records using reports and ! databases, and complete adjudication of the claim with authori! ty limits of at least $500,000 for annuity or life insurance claims
Responsibilities:
- Accountable for identifying, investigating, evaluating, obtaining and utilizing critical information required to accurately and objectively adjudicate claims.
- Verbally communicate and correspond with outside customers to convey claim filing requirements.
- Handles claim inquiries and processing on multiple product lines.
- Documents all calls clearly and concisely and completes follow-up work.
- Identify areas of potential risk for the company, including potential fraud.
- Analyze all incoming documents for appropriateness and completeness, and determine whether claim is payable. If so, calculate benefit amounts and serve as 1st approver for payments.
- Serves as the first step in resolving claims adjudication issues and in the call escalation process.
- May assist in various projects and provide one-on-one tra! ining with Claims associates.
- Participates as a team member for all new product, system, and team initiatives.
- May be responsible for incoming and outgoing calls to claimants, Powers of Attorney, facilities and other persons or entities involved in the adjudication of a claim.
- May test system upgrades to validate system changes and functionality in regards to all upgrades.
- May assist with Unclaimed Funds process.
- Insure all tax information is correctly reported.
- Maintain claim file with proper level of documentation.
- Answer customer inquiries.
- Maintain claim inventories within departmental, contractual, and regulatory guidelines.
- Other duties as assigned to assist the department in reaching it goals.
- Two-year college degree or equivalent experience in a financial institution operations department, customer service, or annuity product experien! ce.
- A minimum of two years experience as a claims examiner
- Applicant must hold a FINRA Series 6 license or have the ability to obtain such a license within 60 days of hire
- Knowledgeable in claims adjudication for annuity product lines and prior experience with life insurance claims.
- Must have sharp attention to detail and ability to perform with high degree of accuracy.
- Strong analytical skills to review documents and reach sound decisions
- Proven oral and written communication skill set.
- Ability to:

- Work simultaneously with multiple computer systems
- Complete mod! erately difficult mathematical calculations
- Available for 8am to 8pm working hours
- Experience processing life or deferred annuity claim benefits.
