We are currently recruiting for a Sr. Legal Clerk to join our Legal Recovery department located in Norfolk (Virginia Beach), Virginia.
Job Summary:
This position functions under the direction and supervision of the operations manager and associate counsel. This position will generally be responsible for performing legal tasks in support of t! he Litigation Department.
Essential Duties and Res! ponsibilities:
Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Delegate legal duties to legal clerks;
Prepare pleadings and discovery (under the supervision of associate counsel), including but not limited to: complaints, defaults, motions, discovery requests/responses, garnishments and post judgment documents;
Conduct various clerical duties, including filing, copying and assembly of court packages;
Prepare correspondence to attorneys, debtors and courts;
Communicate directly with attorneys and courts;
Review and analyze accounts for appropriate handling, under attorney supervision;
Calendar/track/maintain: discovery requests, document requests, and various accounts.
Maintain and organize litigation materials;
Manage litigation process under the supervision of associate counsel;
Maintain document management system including the review of accounts through internal software program;
Assist management with coachi! ng/training new team members;
Perform notary duties;
Processes check requests.
Jobs Requirements
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education
1-2 years related litigation experience in a law firm or municipal or state court as a legal assistant
This position may assist with training and supervision of up to 8 non-exempt, non-supervisory legal clerks.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Windows, Office software, and capable of navigating the internet
Must complete and pass company administered Fair Debt Collection Practices Act training and testing
Must have effective organizational, communication, time-management and interpersonal skills and high attention to detail
Must be able to work independently
Must be able to handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously while meeting deadlines
Knowledge of Fair Debt Collections and Practices Act (FDCPA) and Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) is required
Must dem! onstrate ability to read and interpret legal documents, and understand ! legal terminology
Internal candidates must have:
A minimum of 9 months continuous employment with our company
Must have met all monthly performance goals recovery prior to being considered for promotion
Be in compliance with company policies
