Tidewater Finance Company , an industry leader in indirect consumer financing is actively seeking a Compliance Attorney to join our growing team! Tidewater Finance Company was established for the initial purpose of purchasing and servicing retail installment contracts. The company currently provides financing for two lines of business: Retail Consumer Goods and Vehicles.
Tidewater Finance Companys compliance mission is to implement and maintain a robust program to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and company policies and procedures. The Compliance Attorney will! be responsible for developing and overseeing Tidewater Financ! e Companys Compliance Management System (CMS) components. The Compliance Attorney works to ensure that Tidewater Finance Company and its affiliates comply with applicable federal and state consumer financial protection laws and regulations. Additionally, in connection with Tidewater offering and providing financial products and services, this person evaluates the risk of harm to consumers, works to mitigate the risk of harm and prevent violations of law, and appropriately address any deficiencies.
This position requires an individual with an in depth knowledge of legal issues, laws and regulations impacting the consumer finance industry.
Responsibilities include:
Identify legal and compliance requirements, establish compliance strategies, priorities, standards, and expectations and implement policies, procedures, programs and other tools
Ensure Tidewaters responsibilities are integrated into its policies, procedures, systems and business pro! cesses; review operations to ensure the responsibilities are carried out; ensure that appropriate corrective action is taken with respect to deficiencies or violations
Serve as a resource for compliance requirements
Provide support to General Counsel Office with research and advice concerning the formulation, interpretation, and administration of corporate policies and procedures
Assist with regulatory compliance issues including representing entity before government agencies including assistance with audit responses
Provide proactive services, including researching and organizing relevant statutes and case materials, and reviewing relevant articles and cases cited in industry publications
Provide analysis on changes in laws or case law or as needed for compliance purposes
Work with Quality Assurance, Operations and IT Departments to investigate and follow-up on complaints which involve technology and compliance issues
Review and analyze complain! t data for compliance risks, violations of law, systemic issues, CMS vu! lnerabilities, gaps in policies and procedures and trends
Assist the Audit Department with developing and maintaining compliance audit standards, protocols and reporting

Required Education, Experience and Skills
Bachelors Degree in business, finance, accounting, law, related field or equivalent experience; Juris Doctorate
Must be a member in good standing of the bar of any state
At least 8 years experience in compliance, regulatory, an! d/or legal functions; preferably, at least 3 years of in-house experience advising financial institutions
Working knowledge of consumer credit compliance matters and laws to include: various credit software and systems (e.g., origination system, underwriting or credit scoring system, portfolio management system, collection system, Metro 2, E-Oscar)is a plus
Supervisory and/or management experience with direct and indirect reports
Excellent strategic planning and project management skills
Experience with policy development, assessing risks, implementing procedures, training, monitoring and review
Strong interpersonal skills and a team player
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Detail oriented, with strong follow-up' skills
Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and manage multiple competing tasks and demands
