The Safety/ Claims Manager will provide proactive leadership and management of Claims Administration for the project.

This position is responsible for reviewing field incident reports and making a determination if a claim will be handled internally or reported to the insurance company. This will include investigating, analyzing, negotiating, and resolving claims for workers' compensation, automobile, and general liability. This will also include follow up with treating physicians and overseeing return to work programs. This position will assist in providing guidance and insight with safety auditors who investigate claims, including though not limited to taking photographs, interviewing witnesses, and obtaining statements. Strong communication skills (written and verbal) are essential.

Capabilities/Experience

Understand and have experience administering workers' compensation, automobile, Builder’s Risk, and general liability claims, within an OCIP.

Coordinate with field auditors incident investigation reports including securing documents, obtaining statements, and scene photographs.

Receive incident reports and set up claim files, input data, and report to the insurance company. Enter claims payments, reserves, and new claims on computer system, inputting concise yet sufficient file documentation.

Recognize and determine liability and case exposures followed by prompt action to evaluate claims and report to appropriate parties.

Maintain knowledge and understanding of inter-company relationships between SKW Constructors, its partners, and employees.

Investigate, evaluate and apply technical knowledge and human relations skills to effect fair and prompt disposition and closure of cases and to contribute to a reduced loss ratio.

Review settled insurance claims to determine that payments and settlements have been made in accordance with company practices and procedures and ensure timely processing of payments.

Make determination of potential need for defense counsel on case by case basis, arrange for legal representation and assist in preparation of defense.

Manage all correspondence and communication with customers, claimants, attorneys, doctors, medical specialists, employees, etc.

Participate in operations meetings as necessary to present claim summary reporting and provide ongoing education of claims process and assist with background to help improve/reduce incident occurrence.

Conduct ongoing analysis of claims data in effort to meet benchmarks and performance goals and provide informative analysis to all levels of management in an effort to improve results.

Attend case mediations, conferences, negotiations, depositions, etc. as warranted depending on case needs on the company's behalf.

Assist with clerical duties of mail, copying, filing and routine phone calls as warranted.

Other duties as assigned.

Experience Desired

A Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of three years’ experience in civil construction industry directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a diverse group while nurturing a team atmosphere.

Knowledge and understanding of the principle and procedures, legal concepts, and full life cycle for the investigation and processing of workers' compensation, automobile, Builders Risk, and general liability claims.

Must be familiar with changing legislation and insurance related court decisions that could impact the way that claims are processed.

Familiarity with standard policy forms and ability to apply them to claim-specific issues.

General knowledge of environmental, safety, health, and insurance regulations.

Skill in examining and re-engineering/ streamlining operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.

Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.

Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures and to use independent judgment to manage and impart confidential information.

Ability to investigate and analyze information and to draw conclusions.

Ability to handle difficult people in stressful situation.

Must be proficient in MSWord, MSExcel, MSPowerPoint, and MSOutlook with the ability to create reports from claims data.

Ability to develop and deliver presentations.
