Works independently to conduct legal research, interview clients, provide legal advice, perform legal negotiations, prepare legal documents, and related actions to prevent or resolve legal problems of individual clients. Work involves a wide range of civil law matters to include issues in different states and jurisdictions, as well as conflicts of law issues due to mobile and transient clientele from across the nation and overseas. You will advise on authoring and negotiation of Separation/Property Settlement Agreements; present and future child support; alimony; the division of marital pr! operty; the division of military and private retirement funds;! and Social Security Administration benefits.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Applicants will be evaluated to determine if they meet the minimum qualification requirements and on the extent to which their application shows possession of the following knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) associated with the position. KSAs:

1. Skill in identifying and analyzing legal issues arising from a legal assistance practice; to include federal and state income taxation, preventive law, wills and estate planning, landlord and tenant laws, consumer protection laws, family law, insurance and personal injury cases.
2. Ability to craft creative solutions to complex and novel legal problems.
3. Ability to manage a complex and significant client caseload.
4. Skill in oral communication.
5. Skill in written communication.

VETERANS PREFERENCE INFORMATION: There is no formal rating system for applying veteran's preference to attorney appoin! tments in the excepted service; however, the Department of the Army considers veteran's preference eligibility a positive factor for attorney hiring. Applicants eligible for veteran's preference must include that information in their cover letter or resume and attach supporting documents to their submissions. Time in Grade Requirements : If currently employed as an attorney by the Federal Government you must have completed one year of time-in-grade at the next lower level within 30 days of the closing date of the announcem! ent, or previously served at the same or higher grade as the position b! eing filled.

The following minimum qualification requirements must be met before applicants are eligible for further consideration.
Education: An applicant must have successfully completed a full course of study in a school of law accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) and have the first professional law degree (LLB or JD).

Bar membership : Applicant must currently be a member in good standing of the bar of a state, territory of the United States, District of Columbia, or Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
Experience: For a GS-13 or equivalent - Applicant must have two or more years of professional legal experience, acquired after being admitted to the bar, commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position. Graduation from an ABA-Accredited Law School in the top 25% of the class or an advanced law degree such as LLM may substitute for one year of the required professional legal experience.
