Description: Fairfax County Government is currently interviewing PARALEGAL right now, this job will be assigned in Virginia. Provides paralegal support to Children, Youth, and Families social workers in the Department of Family Services (DFS) on issues relating to child abuse and neglect and child welfare. In that capacity, collaborates wi! th DFS social workers in preparing affidavits and other court pleadings. Organizes, categorizes and determines completeness of documents to be submitted for court filing, and subsequently files such pleadings in the applicable court (either the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court (J&DR Court) or Circuit Court). Collaborates with DFS social workers in preparing for presentation of documents in court, and organizes and prepares case documentation for court presentation. Is familiar with court protocol in J&D Relations Court and Circuit Court, and demonstrates appropriate professionalism in any court setting. Serves as liaison between DFS and the Office of the County Attorney, and maintains positive relationship between DFS and its critical stakeholders and partners. Coordinates private process service of documents such as witness subpoenas, court summons, and notices. Confirms that private process service has been completed and legal documents are filed with the appropriate! court system. Conducts legal research for DFS on child welfar! e issues, using the Internet, court records, and other legal research mechanisms. Tracks DFS case status through court records, consultation with court personnel, and the internet, as needed. Documents all work, maintains relevant statistics, and provides reporting on the same as requested. This position will work from the department's office in Fairfax, with frequent travel to the court buildings.

Minimum

Qualifications:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate degree in paralegal or legal assistance studies or closely related field; plus one year of experience as a paralegal or legal assistant.

Special

Requirements:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a check of the Child Protective Services Registry, and a driver's record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

Experience with court processes. Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written.
