Our business unit provides support in three major areas: business process services, where we perform the actual function that the process is related to; business process related software, that helps us manage the various components, the systems associated with the software in the process; and then there is a businessprocess management which is used to help design and track the performance of the specific business process. The business units work supports primarily the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of State, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. We support our clients with a work force of over 2600 Serco and Serco subcontractor employees and provide mission critical support services that primarily support Immigration, Visa Processing and Commerce.

Typically reports to a manager.-Death Benefits Analyst Pos ition Summary

This position supports the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board (FRTIB) in the administration of the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) Death Bene fits Processing Unit. The TSP is a retirement savings and investment plan for F ederal employees and members of the uniformed services, including the Ready Res erve. It was established by Congress in the Federal Employees' Retirement Syste m Act of 1986 and offers the same types of savings ! and tax benefits that many p rivate corporations offer their employees ! under 401(k) plans.

Analysts are re sponsible for processing designation of beneficiary forms submitted by the part icipant for both civilian federal employees and members of the uniformed servic e in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), and FRTIB policies and guidelines. Analysts determine the beneficiary of a TSP participant accoun t. Analysts identify any deficiencies in the designation of beneficiary form(s) , identify the designated beneficiary(ies), update the participant account(s) a nd notify the participant of the account's beneficiary status. Analysts work un der the direction of a Team Lead.

Position Responsibilities/Job Description

1. Conduct research on applications for TSP participant accounts to ensure all relevant and required information is obtained and the correct beneficiary deter mination is made. This research involves utilizing computer systems, the Code of Federal Regulations, FRTIB policies and guidelines,! and procedural manuals.

2. Determine the beneficiary of the TSP participant account based upon the inf ormation obtained from various computer systems and legal sources.

3. Resolve any information deficiencies required to process the designation of beneficiary form. Written correspondence and telephone contact may be necessary to complet e a claim.

4. Accurate data entry and attention to detail, in accordance with the CFR and Federal guidelines is required.

5. Provide timely, responsive custo mer service to inquiries from various sources such as participants, legal repre sentatives, and government agencies.

6. Evaluate existing procedures and recom mend updates and enhancements to computer applications, procedures and processe s.

Required Skills

2. Working knowledge and experience of computer applications; personal c! omputers, MS Office and/or business office systems.

3. Ability! to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

6. Associate's Degree or 1-3 yearscompara ble experience preferred. The job of a Benefits Analyst I requires discretion and independent judgment as it pertains to beneficiary determinations and applications for death benefits. There is a high degree of variability and complexity in the claims submitted to the DBPU. Each individual analyst uses their own judgment in interpreting the CFR and in applying those law to judge the completeness of a death benefits application. Beneficiary determinations are made at the Benefits Analyst I and simply confirmed down the line by a verifier.

Activates and processes death benefits claims. Determines the beneficiary of the death benefits claim consistent with the Code of Federal Regulations and established DBPU procedu! re. Resolves any information deficiencies required to process the claim through written correspondence and telephone contact. Enters beneficiary data into the appropriate computer system. Provides timely, responsive customer service to inquiries from various sources such as potential beneficiaries, legal representatives, and government agencies. Answers incoming phone calls regarding benefits applications. Works under general supervision. Other duties as assigned. Position may require an associate's degree and 0-3 years of experience in the field or a related area. Candidate must have working knowledge and experience of computer applications, personal computers, MS Office and/or business office systems. Candidate must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Candidate must interact and communicate with disbursements analysts to ensure the disbursement of funds to a beneficiary is complete and accurate.

Required Skills and Experience: May require a bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalent and 0! -3 years of experience in the field or in a related area. ~ Work is generally performed in a normal office environment where there is minimal exposure to unpleasant and/or hazardous working conditions. Job assignments may require working at client site where working conditions may vary. Travel may be required.
