Performs professional-level planning duties within a wide range of assignments; does related work as requ! ired. Essential Duties
This critical position in the Comprehensive Planning division is primarily responsible for processing street names and addresses; physically verifying and resolving address anomalies; preparing and distributing monthly reports on address and street name activities; c oordinating with adjacent localities for addresses and street names that cross county or city boundaries; interpreting and recommending amendments to the property numbering manual; and, preparing public advertisements, board papers, resumes and maps for street name changes.
Responsibilities also include analyzing and preparing staff reports for the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors for rezoning, amendments to proffers, and provisional use permits; preparing major thoroughfare amendments and other special studies; corresponding with county and state agencies in reviewing building permits for demolitions; and intergovernmental reviews.
Incumbent will provide! customer service for street names and property numbering to a! ll customers including representatives from the divisions of Fire and Police, Voter Registration, area utility companies, U.S. Postal Service, and the Richmond Regional Planning District Commission ; meet with elected and appointed officials, developers, attorneys and citizens to provide guidance and recommendations for land development; and attend community meetings and public hearings for the Planning Commission.
Use Microsoft Office, FileNet, Tidemark, Adobe Acrobat, ArcGIS and Oracle E-Business Suite software applications. Perform related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of planning, including basic statistics, mathematics, economics and sociology; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to assist in the preparation of comprehensive master plans and to maintain them with technical accuracy; skill in the interpretation of statistical data; ability to coordinate the preparation of graphs, maps and ch! arts. (Note: Some positions may require some knowledge of the principles and practices of landscape architecture and/or civil engineering and the ability to read and interpret detailed site construction, architectural landscape and lighting plans.) Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a bachelor's degree with a major in planning or a related field and one (1) year of professional planning work experience in municipal or county government; OR , any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
