Legal Specialist Duties: Will lead legal support to client for numerous cases involving affirmative cost recovery for environm! ental remediation. This support includes factual research on site history and operator practices, providing research for client's legal analysis of claims, key document identification and acquisition, relevancy review, privilege review, document production, and assistance in graphic presentation of evidence. Obtain in-depth knowledge of subject-matter surrounding the history of sites, including operator, industry, and regulatory practices concerning industrial waste management and disposal; identification of potentially responsible parties (PRPs); and documentation of operator and PRP corporate successorship. Engage in dialogue with the client to gain clear understanding of client's affirmative claims liability analysis objectives. Using your understanding of federal and state environmental laws and regulations, including CERCLA, RCRA, CWA, SDWA, CAA, TSCA, and others (additional experience in federal government contract law is a plus), provide the client with research to a! pply these laws to complex fact patterns for the client's lega! l analysis. Responsible for identifying, accessing, obtaining, and managing documentation to support environmental cost recovery actions. Work with document custodians at federal and state agencies to identify and obtain records located at federal and state record repositories such as the Library of Congress and the NARA federal records centers. Maintain strong client relationship with trial attorneys on existing cases, including a thorough understanding of the client's methods and preferences related to product delivery. Familiarity with company services such as InfoDox , as well as internal administrative procedures.

Requirements: A Juris Doctor or degree in Environmental Studies or other relevant field. 1 year of legal experience in environmental law, particularly with federal and state environmental regulations and laws, such as CERCLA, RCRA, CWA, SDWA, CAA, TSCA, and others. Prior experience with environmental claims, and proven legal analysis capabilit! ies in this area. Environmental regulation or litigation experience a plus. Familiarity with research at federal and state record repositories such as the Library of Congress, the NARA federal records centers, or other government facilities. Familiarity with a wide variety of research techniques including paper research and electronic research, such as web searching. Strong legal writing skills. Familiarity with MS Access or other database programs, MS Excel, MS Word, Internet, database searching, and presentation of graphics. Ability to manage numerous tasks simultaneously. Desired: Extensive experience working for or with federal or state regulatory agencies. This could include experience with a government agency, a consulting firm to such agencies, the U.S. Department of Justice, a state attorney general's office, or a law firm with extensive environmental practice.
