This position is located in the Legal Division, Litigation and Resolutions Branch, General Litigation Section, Arlington, VA, of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and performs a variety of responsible secretarial and administrative assignments, thereby relieving the Assistant General Counsel of matters not meriting his/her time or attention. KEY REQUIREMENTS

Employment Conditions DUTIES:

  • Receives telephone calls and visitors for the Assistant General Counsel; determines which calls can be answered personally and which should be directed to the Counsels or other attorneys in the office.
  • Schedules appo! intments, meetings and conferences for the Assistant General C! ounsel. Advises participants of the date, subject and the extent of their participation. Without instruction, obtains materials required by the Assistant General Counsel for such meetings and conferences, assembles them in an orderly fashion and makes certain that the supervisors have them in ample time to review before the meeting.
  • Performs legal research for the Assistant General Counsel by identifying, locating and retrieving legal materials from the Law Library and other resources inside and outside of the Corporation.
  • Responsible for providing day-to-day administrative management over the secretarial/technician/clerical staff assigned to the Assistant General Counsel. This includes assessing the work needs, establishing priorities, assigning the work to be done, and reviewing the finished product. The incumbent is also responsible for coordinating the leave schedules of the support staff to insure office coverage.
  • Arranges travel and secures ! hotel reservations. Prepares travel vouchers and reports.
  • Prepares and reviews legal filings and correspondence for format clarity and consistency with established regulations and procedures. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the grade 7 level or higher in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience serving in a position that was the primary office support and which required a knowledge of clerical and administrative procedures and requirements, various office skills, and the ability to apply such skills in a legal setting.

There is no substitution of education for the experience for this position.

Knowledge of the duties, priorities, commitments, policies and program goals of a General Counsel and the immediate staff sufficient to perform non-routine assignments such as: independently noting and following-up on commitments made at meetings and conferences; and locating and summarizing information from files and documents.

3. Ability to perform legal research assignments.

4. Knowledge of legal terminology, and the formats, processes and procedures associated with legal documents.Knowledge of the substantive programs of the organization as they relate to the clerical and administrative support functions of the office. Knowl! edge of grammar, spelling, punctuation and required formats.

5! . Ability to communicate in writing.

6. Skill in operating a personal computer and a basic understanding of office computer software.
