We are currently recruiting for a Custodian of Records to join our Legal Recovery department located in Norfolk, VA.
Job Summary
Primarily responsible for reviewing accounts placed for legal process, ensuring that filings are supported by appropriate and substantiating documentation, and representing the company as a witness or corporate representative at dep! ositions and hearings.
Jobs Qualifications
Review and ! endorse, when appropriate, documents/affidavits requiring review by Custodian of Records on behalf of the company. Review accounts associated with these affidavits/documents.
Represent company at court hearings and/or depositions as a witness, or corporate representative, as deemed necessary and appropriate in consultation with handling attorney. Overnight travel may be required.
Maintain status as Notary Public and perform Notary duties on all necessary affidavits/documents.
Reviews disputed accounts and verify appropriate documentation and proper handling.
Review accounts set for trial and verify that account was properly handled prior to trial date.
Author and submit required correspondence to court clerks.
Author and submit responses to debtors to address particular inquiries from these debtors.
Manage document requests.
Maintain knowledge of current department policies and procedures and apply as necessary in appropriate circumstances. U! pdate department manager and team members about any recent changes.
Job Requirements
Minimum Requirements
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
1-2 years of related experience as a legal assistant in a law firm or municipal or state court or equivalent combination of education and experience
Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills
Good organizational skills with a high attention to detail
Proficient with Microsoft Windows and Office software, internet
Must be able to work independently under general supervision only
Must exercise independent judgment and discretion when reviewing adequacy of account documentation, proper handling and when responding to questions during deposition and/or hearing concerning filings made on behalf of the company
Must be able to handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously while meeting deadlines
Proficient level of knowledge of Fair Debt Collections and Practic! es Act (FDCPA) and Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) is required
Pre! ferred Skills
Bachelor's Degree in a business related field preferred
