Performs technical work controlling, processing and ensuring the security of evidence recovered or found property held by the Lynchburg Police Department, by per! forming the following duties.
Essential Duties:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned.
- Receives, controls and ensures security of evidence and recovered or found property;
- Maintains computerized and manual record systems on evidence and property
- Purges evidence and recovered property in accordance with applicable laws, obtains court orders for destruction or auctioning of unclaimed or illegal property
- Provides citizen services such as lost and found, stolen and recovered property administration
- Testifies in court with regard to security and custody of evidence
- Controls evidence checking account; deposits funds, drafts checks, prepares accounting reports;
- Prepares and maintains a variety of records; notifies various parties regarding evidence and property;
- Notifies the la! boratory of the urgency of certain cases, and files lab analys! es with the Commonwealth's Attorney;
- Maintains evidence files;
Willing to attend annual or biennial Property &Evidence related training;
Ability to wear OSHA approved respirator/filtration masks when dealing with certain types of evidence
Willing to be subject to call-out after-hours to respond to off-site storage locations or incident scenes to assist with evidence processing with the possibility of working in various weather or tempature extremes;
Functional knowledge and experience using Microsoft Word and Excel programs;
Ability to climb three to eight foot step ladders;
Cleans evidence rooms;
Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned; When unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency; and all City employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ens! ure appropriate service delivery.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and considerable technical experience involving public contact work.
Additional Requirements:
Must successfully complete IS100 and IS700 National Incident Management (NIMS) training wihtin 90 days of employment. May also be required to complete higher levels of NIMS training as determined appropriate for the position.
