GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Account Representative is responsible for assisting patients with clinical billing and collection questions pertaining to their HSF account. This position facilitates settlement arrangements on outstanding patient accounts by expediting patient collections, filing/following up on third party claims, establishing ! payment plans, identifies and prepares accounts for legal coll! ections and/or processes applicable adjustments. The Account Representative serves as a public relations liaison for the Foundation through communications with clinical departments, third party carriers, attorneys, other HSF sections and the general public.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Essential functions of the job:
ï§ Responds to inquiries from patients, clinical departments, and third parties by way of telephone, written correspondence and personal contacts.
ï§ Produces accurate claims for physicians services for mailing to third party payors.
ï§ Coordinates resolutions of rejected, denied and outstanding third party claims.
ï§ Submits paperwork for financial screenings and income verifications to determine appropriate write offs or payment plan eligibility.
ï§ Determines and processes applicable medical indigency adjustments/discounts for physician fees in compliance with established guidelines.
ï§ Determines! and processes bankruptcy and deceased no estate adjustments to physician fees.
ï§ Analyzes problem accounts and takes necessary corrective action.
ï§ Gathers, verifies and inputs demographic, financial and insurance data.
ï§ Maintains accurate and complete documentation of patient contacts.
ï§ Provides backup coverage on other positions within department as necessary.
ï§ Analyzes accounts to ensure accurate patient billing data and provides necessary follow up to assure effective and timely collection.
ï§ Drafts letters and/or sends appropriate form letters to patient if unable to reach by telephone.
ï§ Views SMS data to obtain additional billing information and compares records for insurance purposes, legal transfers, etc.
ï§ Identifies charges that need discounts, contractual, etc. according to established medical indigency guidelines and identification of HSF contracts.
ï§ Determines the adjustment amount, provides necessary ! proof, obtains approval, keys adjustment and notifies patient of the co! rrect balance due.
ï§ Educates and assists patients with billing issues, etc.
ï§ Contacts clinical Departments by telephone or by correspondence to discuss patient concerns and/or billing issues.
ï§ Obtains necessary information and records for researching accounts.
ï§ Serves as a patient advocate and works with Risk Management, Piedmont Liability Trust, HSF Corporate Counsel, and Internal Audit to ensure compliance.
ï§ Sends requests to resolve misapplied payments, credits.
ï§ Participates in special meetings, projects as required.
ï§ Negotiates payment arrangements and establishing budget plans as necessary with patients, departments, and third party carriers.
ï§ Completes other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Education:
ï§ High School Diploma or GED
ï§ Some college courses preferred
Experience:
ï§ At least one year of direct customer contact via phone or in person ï§ Experience working in a medical setting preferred
ï§ Experience handling and processing money preferred
Skills:
ï§ Basic knowledge of and experience utilizing a personal computer
ï§ Keyboarding skills
ï§ 10-key calculator experience preferred
ï§ Experience utilizing billing application software preferred
ï§ Medical coding knowledge and skills helpful
