Description: Dept of Transportation is at present looking to employ Legal Specialist right now, this career will be reside in Virginia. Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Right of Way Division is seeking an individual to perform title examinations and conduct real estate closings under the supervision of VDOT! 's staff counsel for moderate to complex assignments in multiple disciplines of Right of Way. The candidate chosen for this position will review deeds, instruments of conveyance, calculate proportionate shares, agreements, and plan sheets prior to recordation; will prepare documents for closings and obtain release of liens; will deal directly with landowners on title and closing issues; and will research, analyze and compile information to assist in resolving complex issues. This position will also respond to inquiries from the public, government officials, attorneys, and management, and will keep management informed of the status of assigned projects by alerting them to potential problem areas and recommending options/alternatives for resolution. The incumbent will maintain a petty cash fund.

Minimum Qualifications

Considerable knowledge and work experience in a Right of Way and Utilities discipline. Current experience in examining land titles; and preparing title reports, legal documents and other closing documents. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with customers, work in a team environment and provide a high level of customer service; possess strong interpersonal skills; communicate effectively (both orally and in writing). Basic knowledge of all disciplines/functions of Right of Way and Utilities. Working knowledge of real estate principles/practices, agency policies/procedures and acquisition law (Titles 25.1 & 33.1 of the Virginia Code). Working knowledge of engineering as it relates to highway construction, reading and interpreting plans, coordination of preliminary engineering activity development of estimates. Ability to analyze information, provide development of estimates. Ability to analyze info! rmation, negotiate and/or mediate, and provide direction. Proficient in! using computers, MS Word and VDOT related software. Valid driver's license required.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to obtain Notary Public appointment.
