The Loudoun County Commissioner of the Revenue is seeking an inquisitive, organized individual to join the office’s compliance division as a Field Inspector. The position requires the use of visits to commercial centers and construction sites in the County to ensure that all businesses are on the County’s tax rolls. The successful candidate will utilize excellent customer service skills interacting with business owners or their representatives to obtain information and counsel on proper filing procedures ensuring that they understand their local tax obligations. In addition to field visits, the position also requires the use of excellent investigative and analytical skills to utilize data obtained from a variety of sources to discover unregistered businesses. The individual will research, interpret and apply Virginia tax code, case law and local ordinances to ensure that businesses are assessed fairly, equitably and uniformly. Works with office management, Treasurer’s Office, and County Attorney’s Office as collections, bankruptcy, tax appeal and litigation issues dictate. Must have exceptional oral and written communication skills to interact with business owners and their accountants and attorneys. Must be self-motivated, flexible and able to multitask. Will attend assessment classes to remain familiar with current assessment issues and laws.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of six years experience in business, management, finance, or related field. Knowledge of business structures, state and federal taxes, business procedures, and accounting functions is highly desirable. Prefer a Bachelor’s degree and two years of related experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications and have the ability to tour commercial facilities of all types and construction sites in various stages of development.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background, credit and DMV check. Must have a valid driver’s license.
